Steve Peters is taking it to the next level as usual.
Steve Peters, an organic farmer, researcher and plant breeder for over four decades is working with Kanti Rawal, a professional agriculturalist for over a half a century, and commercial tomato plant breeder for over 40 years.
The many new varieties listed this year are the result of several years of intentional breeding by Kanti Rawal, a expert agriculturalist for over a half a century, and industrial tomato plant breeder for over forty years, and Steve Peters, an natural farmer, researcher and plant breeder for over 40 years. Their paintings began in 2017, making precise strategic pollen crosses by hand.
They crossed dozens of heirlooms with some key commercial varieties to enhance a variety of plant traits.
These include higher fruit quality, more fruit firmness, longer shelf life, better yield, determinate growth habit (decreased staking), and tolerance/resistance to blossom rot and various illnesses.
They are growing most of their tomatoes under dry farming conditions and most of their varieties are adapted well to low water environments. They continue to grow and evaluate each generation F2, F3, F4 selecting the best material and destroying the rest. They are also making novel crosses for creating new varietes in the coming years. All their seed is in the public domain and you are free to use it in your own breeding. Awesome!
For commercial growers their tomato selections wiil reduce cost of production and boost your marketability.
For gardeners you just can't beat that special heirloom flavor with no cracking.
